Old doors

The doors in an old cottage from Småland. The county (län) in Sweden from where the most people emigrated to the USA.

I think Smaland is the area my father's family (Sederberg in the USA) came from when they left Sweden ... but we know little of their history.

These doors seem to have the feeling of mystery which goes with the magic I saw in the Gothenburg red-leafed brook a couple of days ago. What was/is housed within them?

@San G.: This is whats called a soldattorp (soldierscabin). Every place with a couple of farms had to have a soldier. He was given some land and some cattle by the community. Some months every year he had to service in the army. This ment that the farmers had to help the soldiers wife during that time. The cabin and what the land and cattle would give, was all his pay. It wasn´t popular with the farmers to have to give away both land and cattle and even workforce. So being a soldier in those days were tough.

Absolutely beautiful! I was recently told I should do a series on old doors around farms. This makes me want to do it even more.

I can never resist the lure of wood, I think because of it's individuality in terms of appearance, weathering, character and beauty. It lends itself to photography, and you've done a fabulous job with composition, colouring and detail here.

There is something fairy tale in this image. Superb
